چکیده

Carbamazepine oral suspension (100mg/5ml), 100mg and 200mg chewable tablets are proposed for addition to the Model List of Essential Medicines, for use in the management of epilepsy in children. It is at least as effective as phenobarbitone, phenytoin and sodium valproate in the management of partial and tonic-clonic seizures in children. Carbamazepine is available in the UK as a sugar free oral suspension of strength 100mg carbamazepine in 5ml (Tegretol R). Tegretol R is also available as 100mg, 200mg and 400mg tablets, 100mg and 200mg chewtabs and 200mg and 400mg modified release tablets. There are also generic formulations of the solid dose preparations available. These may vary in bioavailability and it is suggested that to avoid reduced effect or excessive side-effects, care should be exercised if formulations need to be changed. Available in Australia, the United Kingdom and multiple other countries.
